Ear Keloid Surgery

Go To Post     Ear Keloid Surgery A keloid is a thick, raised scar that is larger than the original wound. It is due to dysfunctional wound healing, wherein there is overproduction of collagen. Risk factors for keloid formation include age (less than 30), race (Asian), familial tendency. Treatment for keloids is usually corticosteroid injection, but if the keloid is big, its best to do surgery first to debulk the keloid then follow-up with intralesional corticosteroid injections. If the keloid is on an earlobe, wearing a special earring that puts pressure on the earlobe can prevent the keloid from returning after keloid surgery. Putting pressure on the area reduces blood flow, which can stop a keloid from returning. Between 90% and 100% of patients who use this treatment as directed after keloid surgery can prevent another keloid.
